Taking inspiration from a legacy of British singer-songwriters, 60’s guitar pop and a slice of 80’s electro, Conrad De Souza is a songwriting musician and vocalist from Essex, UK, who has been performing & recording since 1985. Trademark quirky lyrics & funky guitar work feature in his tunes, together with an emphasis on melody & vocal harmonies.
Performing initially with guitar band ‘4th of July’, a succession of outfits followed from ‘The Mighty Llamas’, ‘Johnson & De Souza’ and ‘Mind The Gap’ to ‘Bark!’ in the late 90’s. ‘Bark!’ was a fun & effective vehicle for Conrad’s songs, but after gigging around Essex & London and the release of their only album ‘Bonafido’ in 2000, the band bid farewell in 2002.
Conrad then went solo & released the albums ‘Unfinished Business’ in 2005 & ‘Strawberry Yoga’ in 2009, although he sometimes joined lively Essex Rock ’n’ Rollers ‘Tequila’ on stage in the 00’s.
A “Best of” collection ‘Random Acts of Creation’ was released in 2015 featuring previous highlights & some new material. In 2016, Conrad released his first album with new virtual band ‘Macrowasp’, providing his songs with a pronounced electro-pop feel and giving voice to his teenage 1980’s influences.
More new material is always on the way, but sometimes you can catch him live in and around the Essex area when he performs solo, with inventive acoustic covers duo ‘Fully Re-Covered’ or stepping in with other local bands.
